Authorised Economic Operator
The WCO SAFE Framework creates a
somewhat new concept in international cooperation: an
Authorized Economic Operator. [This has been embraced by
the EU.] This is essentially a private sector company
that is prepared to comply with all the standards
required by customs authorities, and which is then
accorded fast-track clearances for consignments. Only
multinational corporations will be capable of the
logistical wherewithal to adopt the required standards.
They will thus acquire a privileged status within the
international trading system, replacing the present
assortment of local, national and regional logistical
companies.
